The linkage is attached to an eccentric wheel at the gearbox. This mechanism
has no belt
drive as does the 20585 mechanism.

20595 Gyralite (modified) from BN F9A No. 1 at the Illinois
Railway Museum
No. 1 Burlington Northern F9A with 20595 Gyralite in upper headlight opening
(1997) The 20585 has diagonal hinges on the bulb rings. The 20595 has the
hinges and latches on both bulb rings horizontal. The mounting of the lower bulb ring on the unit in the BN-1 (on
which the Red lens is mounted) has been mounted horizontally in an improvised
fashion. Based on the photos below, this light looks like it had an updated
20585 mechanism installed in it with the new can motor.

The light in the BN-1 consists of a 20595
outer support structure a 20585 mechanism.
The 20595 did not use a belt drive as does the 20585. The linkage to the
bulb plate will therefore not correspond with the patent drawings or spec.
sheets.

The Red glass lens was attached to the bulb ring by 4 clips (2 at top/2 at
bottom).

shaped bracket which wraps around the sides and which is mounted
to the back support of the light is improvised for holding the 20585 Gyralite mechanism.
Right side of bottom showing the "Red" bulb bulb ring and latch as well as
method of securing latch to back of bulb plate
The 20585 bulb rings exhibit mounting clearance problems for the Red glass
lens. The 20595 bulb ring has an increased length from hinge to latch. This
accommodates the lens but makes the improvised horizontal mounting to the 20585
bulb plate necessary.
